Having CHARACTER counts here at MIS:

The six pillars represent the six core ethical values that form the foundation of the Character Counts character education curriculum. The 6 Pillars of Character are: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. There are different ways to help the students and us remember the different pillars. TRRFCC is the acronym used to help remember the pillars because people with good character are terrific. Each pillar is assigned a color and has a brief explanation for why it is that color.

EVERY MONTH A GROUP OF STUDENTS ARE NOMINATED FOR SHOWING THAT MONTHS PILLAR. Once chosen,  that student will have his/her name read over the intercom the day of the Character Counts Celebration pizza lunch.

Merrillville Intermediate School students collected $300.00 to help aid orphaned children in Jacmel, Haiti who are in desperate need of dental care. The orphanages are called the "New Life Homes".  This all-volunteer organization also has a nutrition center that feeds over 1500 people that live in the mountain regions where they have little or nothing to eat  All MIS students should be proud of themselves for helping this worthy cause
