Dear Miller Parents and Families,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.  I am a graduate of Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis, MO.  I earned my Master of Education degree and administrator’s license from Indiana Wesleyan University.  I have 13 years of teaching experience ranging from grades first through third.  Merrillville School Corporation has been my home for the last seven years.

I am honored to become the new building principal of Edgar L. Miller Elementary School.  As I form new relationships with the staff, parents, and students of Miller, I look forward to serving as your principal to continue the journey of academic excellence.

It is my hope that every parent/guardian will play an active role in our children’s education. Without the support of our families and relationships with our students’ teachers, we cannot achieve success.

There are several ways to play this important role:

  • Get to know your child’s teacher.  Form a relationship with him/her.  We are a Team!
  • Become active at Miller Elementary.  Join PTO and get involved.
  • Read with your child daily.
  • Use daily life-situations as a teaching/learning opportunity for your child
  • Provide a designated area for your child to do homework
  • Encourage your child to be responsible and take responsibility for his/her actions.

I am thrilled and excited to join the Miller family.  Stop by and introduce yourself.  I look forward to meeting and working with each and every one of you.

                                                                                                Mrs. J. Griffin

Miller School earned an "A"
Beginning with the 2010-11 academic year, the State Board of Education changed the labels for school categories based on student performance from the terms Exemplary,Commendable, Academic Progress, Academic Watch and Academic Probation to easy-to-understand letter grades (A, B, C, D and F). The new A-F labels improve transparency by allowing parents and community members to better recognize how well Indiana schools are performing and leading students to achieve positive academic outcomes. Starting with the2011-12 academic year, the State Board of Education adopted the use of a new methodology for determining a school or corporation's grade, A-F.
We are proud to announce that MillerElementary School earnedan “A”
